Warming up to spring

Spring is a time for bright colours, short shorts and of course bikinis! Seems easy to pull off right? Wrong! Spring fashion, just like the other seasons, requires forethought and understanding your body.
Here are the three DownTownGirl picks for spring fashion don’ts.
Bright colours: Bright colours are great for the bright spring-time look; however, if you are not colour blocking, keep the different colours to a minimum.

Shorts: We have been working out and crash dieting for the past two weeks, we are now understandably eager to show off those legs. But ladies, be sure to keep it classy. There is always something to be said for leaving something to the imagination.

Bikinis: When shopping for the perfect bikini, your body shape needs to be carefully considered. Do you have a curvy, boyish or petite figure?

Traversing the winter to spring cross-over

With spring fast approaching, so does the time to put away all our beautiful faux-fur vests and stylish leather gloves. The transition from winter to summer, however, does not have to be marred with painful thoughts of losing half our closets. We don’t have to give it all up cold-turkey.
There are three top winter items that a DownTownGirl, or any fashion forward woman, does not have to part with so soon.
Boots: Yes, you read that correctly. You can show your true Bohemian side and juxtapose chunky winter boots, with a flowing, floral, feminine frock.

Lace: This is one of the easier trends to pull off in the hotter months. Lace was all the rage during autumn and winter, and can still be worn in spring. Wear one statement lace piece and off-set it with bright and pastel spring colours.

Leather: Yes, leather can be very bulky, hot and sticky if not worn correctly during spring. Instead of leather pants and full leather jacket, opt for wearing it much shorter; wearing pieces with leather detailing; and always pair it with lighter spring fabrics

Taking the “It” out of Knit-wear

Like most good things in life, knit-wear can be overdone. Trends tend to be like potato chips, for you to look good, having just one is the best way. If you find yourself feeling breezy all over, chances are, you’ve gone too far with this trend.
Check out these crazy knit-wear looks. Should they Keep it or Quit It?

Tune in to DownTownGirl on Sunday to discover what you should and shouldn’t be bringing from your winter closet, to your summer wear.

Knit-wear not granny-wear

You guessed it; our second favourite winter trend has got to be knit-wear. Boho Girls and Uptown Princesses have been rocking this trend. It has managed to be one of the few pieces that have the ability to pull together any outfit and make it effortlessly chic and modern.
Check out some of our best knit-wear looks.

How I wore it

With spring fast approaching, it might be time to survey our closets for looks and trends that can be worn in the warmer months too. So check out next week’s edition for our first pick.

Quit It or Keep It

Fashion should have no rules, right? Wrong! To the real fashion aficionado, this comes as no surprise. The words Style and Fashion are interchangeable, so it goes without reason that for every trend we want to follow, there is a “Stylish” and “Not-So-Stylish” way of working it!
So how shouldn’t you rock out with fur? Ladies, let’s just say if you’re being mistaken for a furry pet, you’ve gone too far. Check out what made this week’s Quit It list

 Can somebody say overkill?

Yikes!

Check back in on Sunday to see what the second best winter trend is, according to the DownTownGirl

Fur today, gone tomorrow

The last few weeks of winter are upon us, and for those who love winter fashion, this will come with a heavy closet cut. Like a child packing away their toys after a long day at play, we will have to shed our winter layers of over-sized scarves and thigh high boots.
I for one would like to indulge in my two favourite winter trends, to ring in the end of this frosty, and sometimes snowy, chapter.  I must say I have loved (faux) Fur this season. So it seems only fitting to have it be the first trend on DownTownGirl. I have been privileged to observe fabulous fur coats, warming fur hats and look-at-me fur boots!
